Your home's paintwork is its first line of defence against the weather, moisture and sun. When it starts to fail, the damage doesn't stay cosmetic for long — moisture gets in, timber rots, and a small touch-up becomes a major repair. Here are five clear signs it's time to repaint your home in Geelong, Melbourne or the Surf Coast.
This is the most obvious sign — and one of the most serious. When paint peels, flakes or blisters, moisture has usually found its way behind the surface. Left unchecked, that trapped moisture causes rot in timber and rust in metal. Blistering often points to a deeper moisture problem, so the surface needs proper preparation before recoating, not just a fresh coat over the top.
Has your once-vibrant colour turned dull or pale? Fading is a clear sign the paint's protective pigments and UV blockers have broken down. You'll often notice a powdery, chalky residue when you rub the surface. While the paint may still be protecting your home to some degree, fading means it's nearing the end of its useful life — especially on the sun-battered northern and western walls of Australian homes.
